7 Random and Weird Things

I was tagged by Suzanne of Learning Curve Coaching last week with an invitation to share seven random and weird things about me. So here I am, ready to roll up my sleeves and divulge what I’m not sure you’d ever want to know. But first I have to share the rules:
1. Link to the person’s blog who tagged you.
2. Post these rules on your blog.
3. List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself
4. Tag seven random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog.
Okay, here we go with the weird and random things:
1. I was a bit of a dorky kid who played the violin quite well, and was therefore stuck forever in school bands and orchestras with the other dorky kids. It didn’t take me very long to figure out that all the “cool” kids were up on stage. I think it was social envy more than anything that got me into singing! Once I actually got a little limelight, it became fairly addictive. I actually instigated a production of “West Side Story” at my German high school (unheard of at the time … high school musicals didn’t exist over there) just so that I could play Maria. And I did. It only took me another decade and a Masters Degree in Opera to figure out that a career in singing made me mostly miserable …
2. Oh yeah, did I mention I’m German? Not just by descent, either. While I was born in Istanbul, I spent most of my childhood in Germany. We moved to Singapore for six years when I was eight years old, which is why I’m fluent in English. I finished high school in Germany and then moved to the US to go to college when I was eighteen.
3. While I’m totally fearless in work and business, I’m a big chicken when it comes to anything physical. I don’t like heights and I don’t care for speed. I don’t ski, I don’t go on roller-coasters. I don’t like the ocean. Danger is not my middle name! But I tried out doing live readings for the first time while on a drive-time radio show with thousands of listeners. Just don’t ask me to sky- or scuba-dive.
4. Life really dragged me into the intuitive/psychic profession kicking and screaming. I took a class in reading and clearing the Akashic Records without considering myself psychic by any means. I thought it would be a nice addition to my flailing coaching practice. Little did I know that I would fall in love with this work! This is probably why I’m such an advocate for intuitive development. If I can learn how, anyone can - no special “gifts” required.
5. I met my husband on Match.com - really! I generally view on-line dating as highly empowering.
6. I can’t watch anything violent on TV. No news, no crime drama. But I’m a total sucker for bad “reality” TV shows. I know, it’s not very spiritual of me to watch “Survivor.” Or, for that matter, “America’s Next Top Model.” But there it is.
7. I love chocolate, yoga, and getting a massage. My ideal day includes all three - and on occasion, I even make those days happen.
So there’s my random list … now here’s who I’d like to invite in on the fun:
Patricia Singleton - Spiritual Journey of a Lightworker
Paula Kawal - Journey Inward Coaching
Leilah Ward - Soul Transitions (one of my Practitioner students! Go Leilah!)
Jennifer Mannion - Heal Pain Naturally
I actually found this a wonderful exercise in self-reflection. What seemingly random events have shaped you into the person you are today? Leave a comment and share!
Blessings,
Andrea

Andrea - thanks for playing with me! Thanks for sharing so much about yourself.
If you have a few minutes today and would like an instant burst of “feel good”, come on over to my blog and read/watch What Are YOU Capable Of? When someone shared it with me, I cried happy tears and I thought my heart was going to burst! Please pass it on!
Okay, not having been tagged, I can get away with butting in and sharing an abbreviated confession — and only because, before I even read your post, my #1 thing that no one would ever suspect about me from reading my blog:
I’ve seen EVERY episode of every cycle of America’s Next Top Model (possibly 3 times each) — and, girl, we better not even start talking about it on the phone because we might crash the telecommunications grid or blow up a satellite or something with the collective chatter.
I have to say, Andrea, I felt such a strong connection and affection for you already… All that’s left to say is OMG!
Slade - I’m just dyin’ over here!!! Picture me, laughing hysterically. No wonder we connect so well … we share a love for deliciously bad TV!!!
Now I feel a mild amount of guilt and regret that I didn’t tag you - I just wanted to tag some people I felt I didn’t know that well. Now of course I wonder what else there is to know about you … hmmm … expect some questions next time we talk!
Hugs,
Andrea
Andrea, really truly and honestly I’m such a bad blogger when it comes to tagging… If you tried to tag me, I’d resist and feel guilty… Hi-jacking a tag here and there is easier and more fun.
“Deliciously bad TV” — when it’s centered around self-esteem and personal transformation … I don’t know, there’s just something about the recipe of contrasting Depth/Superficiality that is actually quite magical.
Weird Eccentric Secret Slade Confession #2 — My hunger, desire, patience, and/or tolerance for reading about spirituality typically hovers just above absolute zero.
Go figure…
Andrea and Slade, count me in when it comes to watching Survivor and especially America’s Next Top Model. I love Tyra Banks. I love how she tries to build up the self esteem of all of her girls. I didn’t watch Survivor until about the 6th or 7th season. Like Slade, I have watched all of the Top Model and reruns. The past two days, I have even watched the marathon of Top Model. My favorite model so far is Danielle, not because she is from Little Rock but because she has style and beauty and has overcome obstacles to get where she is. I will work on an article too. Thanks for tagging me, Andrea. So Slade, get over yourself kiddo. I just might tag you for the hell of it just because of your response. I was laughing as I typed that. You know I love you guys.
Andrea, I just posted my article at http://patriciasingleton.blogspot.com/2008/01/seven-random-and-weird-things.html . Thanks for the invitation to participate. It was fun.
Slade - I have to say that my reading of books on spirituality has fallen off drastically over the last three years, too. At some point, I think we have to put the books away if we’re going to discover our own voice and wisdom!
Patricia - thanks for playing (and tagging Slade, hee hee), I loved reading your seven random things!!! I think it’s hysterical that you watch reality shows, too …. hmmm, a weird connection between spiritual bloggers and ANTM? Okay, everyone … come out of the reality TV closet now and ‘fess up!
Blessings,
Andrea
Hi Andrea, and Happy New Year!
I get so involved that I’ve been known to cry along with contestants!
Thanks for sharing… chocolate, yoga and massages are definitely Good Things! And I’m also a reality TV watcher of note
I found it fascinating to hear that you never considered yourself psychic before starting your intuitive work. I’d love to hear more about your journey, if you’d be happy to post any of it on your blog. I have a cousin who is considered the psychic one in the family - for a long time I ignored my own abilities, and have only fairly recently come to realise that I actually have a great deal of intuition. My New Year’s present to myself is to buy your book as part of my process of further allowing what is naturally within me to come out into the world!
It’s nice to know I am not the only person who does not like the ocean. Marine environments do not appeal to me. I think it’s because large bodies of water have very intense energy and the vastness of them is overwhelming sometimes. Or maybe I had a lifetime that involved unpleasant experiences with water.
Hey Andrea,
Thanks for the tag…I’ve been out of town and I hope to have my post out very soon.
So much we Spiritual Bloggers have in common. Putting the books away in order to have our own experience is something that I also resonate with…and most people would never have guessed how into American Idol I used to be
