Hit the “receive” button

First of all, apologies for the non-post earlier today.  While I love technology, it sometimes doesn’t love me back.  Probably because I’ve unconsciously misbehaved somehow :-)

I don’t know about you, but I can get stuck in “output” mode.  I get busy doing, crossing items off my list, getting things accomplished.  What I often forget is allowing myself to receive the rewards of my efforts.

We are so conditioned to go after what we want, to pursue our goals.   What we are not taught is how to effortlessly receive.  But both the giving of effort and the receiving of its consequences must be in balance.  Otherwise, we become an energetic bottleneck in the flow of the Universe.  Imagine what would happen if we constantly exhaled, without receiving any breath back into our body.  Energetically, that’s what many of us do.  We get stuck on putting energy out.  We forget that we must also be open to receive it back.

So if you find - like I did today! - that you are all “output” without corresponding “input,” here are some ways to hit the “receive” button in your system and come back into balance.

  1. Inhale deeply.  Notice how effortless the exhalation becomes when your lungs are full.  Similarly, allowing yourself to receive fills your energetic reservoirs, and further forward movement becomes effortless.
  2. Lie down on the floor on your back.  Spread your arms out to the side, palms up.  Roll your shoulders underneath you to open your heart.  Imagine beautiful golden light cascading down on you, filling your body.
  3. Give yourself a present.  A quick walk around the neighborhood.  Fifteen minutes to browse in a bookstore.  A conversation with a good friend.  Chocolate.

In order to receive anything, we must first create the energy of receiving.  The best way to do that is to give to ourselves.  The Universe will follow suit.

How do you remind yourself of being open to receive?

Blessings,
Andrea

Imagine what would happen if we constantly exhaled, without receiving any breath back into our body.

    A brilliantly stated observation.

I see the obvious correlation between work-flow, out-put… posting and publishing, definitely.

You’ve given me a nice “handle” for that thought-form.

How about split your output into phases, when each phase is completed spend sometime to admire or celebrate your accomplishment. We do this in Vietnam, I just wish we don’t use cigarettes for celebration, lol. Very nice post, this is something very important but we often forget to look. Thanks for posting.

    Hey Andrea,

Every time I have a look at your blog lately, there is an article that speaks right to what I am experiencing/concerned with right at the moment!

I think you are right, it is important to give to ourselves. I try to give myself little presents every day - preparing a delicious meal, making chocolately things for myself, taking a long, hot bath, remembering all the things I like about me (as opposed to focusing on what I don’t like, which is easier to do)

    Love the new look website

    Anna

Slade, so glad the image works for you. I definitely feel that way sometimes!

Tuan, it’s so funny you mention cigarettes. Chocolate is not as bad, but not a great long-term way to celebrate either! How come we reward ourselves with things that are not actually good for us?

Anna, I’m glad this was timely for you. Good for you for having a “present practice.” Oooh, a whole new spiritual practice - the giving of gifts to oneself. I bet that could gain popularity!

Thanks for the comment on my new site look. I swear I’m done tinkering with it now that I’ve let the pros have a go at it.

My gift to myself today is a massage. Aaaah …
    Blessings,
    Andrea
