Inspiration and Divine Influence

There are a million things I need to do today. Most of them revolve around my book, which is being printed even as we speak. However, the thought of tackling my website, writing a press release, and all that other pesky stuff leaves me completely uninspired. I woke up this morning, and all I wanted to do was write.

This got me thinking about inspiration. I found a definition I loved: “Inspiration:  A divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul.” Yummy, right?  To be inspired is to be infused with Spirit.  It means the most divine part of us is making its creative will known and moving us forward to take action.
There was no divine influence at work this morning, directing me towards marketing activities or administrative tasks. My mind does not like this - it tells me there are deadlines and things that “need” to be done. My mind is pushing me towards the practical and reasonable activities expected of a new author and small business owner. But I have to believe that a wiser part of me is letting me know, by its very absence, that now is not the moment to force myself into these activities.

How often do we ignore the voice of inspiration - or ignore its absence - and push onward? What kind of results do we get when we disregard divine influence in our work and life? Most likely, we create what we think we should, through a resonance of force, need, or even fear. Is the outcome an expression of our authentic, divine Self? Doubtful.

My own busy little mind is raising objections right now, and I’m sure the same if happening for you as you read this. “But what about those deadlines? What about my deliverables to my boss, obligations to my family, the bills that need to be paid, the dinner that needs to be cooked?” Can we be true to divine influence by following our inspiration all the time?

I think we can. Because, even as I’ve written this article and followed my inner divine influence, I feel ready to tackle my marketing activities, my press release. If we can acknowledge divine influence by taking ten or fifteen or thirty minutes to follow our inspiration, this nurtures and fills us with the energy we need to take care of business. Without inspiration, life becomes drudgery.

What are you inspired to do today? How are you honoring divine influence in your life? Leave a comment and share!

Blessings to the divine inspiration within you,
Andrea
