The Touch of Grace

What is grace? To me, grace is the Divine making itself felt and known in my life. Grace is the energy of the gifts that are so generously and unconditionally delivered into our lives when we ask for assistance.
I was feeling quite burned out at the beginning of last week. It seems all I’ve been doing is working, working, working. Now, I love my work, don’t get me wrong. You could say I’m passionately obsessed with every aspect of my business - most of the time, happily so. But in the last four months, I’ve cranked out Level I and II of my Soul Realignment Practitioner Programs (a collective 250 pages and over 20 hours of audio lectures), completely redesigned my website, and finished my book, which will be coming out in a matter of weeks. No wonder that I felt like I’ve been doing nothing but working!
In my state of “burn-out,” I prayed for some fun. I needed some help in reclaiming the wonder and playfulness of my work and spiritual life. Almost immediately, I felt my life touched by Divine grace. Here’s what happened in the next three days:
- We were invited to the opening of a play, and a big birthday bash. Miraculously, babysitters were readily available for both.
- A friend of mine called to invite me and my two-year old daughter over to play with her brand-new kittens.
- I turned on the TV to a movie I’d never usually watch, and something told me to stay on that channel. The movie was “13 going on 30″ with Jennifer Garner. A really frivolous movie, but definitely a great reminder of how to infuse a sense of play and wonder into my “adult” life.
- I went to a new yoga class, and the instructor had a wonderful sense of humor - we laughed all through class.
None of these things are earth-shattering. It’s not as if the heavens opened and a big, booming voice said “And now thou shalt have fun.” But to me, they were all acts of grace, the subtle, generous response to my prayer for assistance. Most importantly, feeling the presence of grace in my life recharged my batteries. By the weekend, I felt inspiration to move on to my next big project - something I felt incapable of doing only five days earlier.
Pray for what you desire - and then allow yourself to experience the flow of grace. It will make itself known, if we are open, watchful, and receptive.
Blessings,
Andrea

Your story reminded me of some of the reading I’ve done by Marianne Williamson. Divine Grace can happen anywhere, anyplace. It can seem “earth-shattering” if you choose to see it that way. Ultimately, I see it as a blessing, always, and welcome it into my life.
