Spiritual Growth in the Physical World

The time for sitting on a mountain top and meditating all day is definitely over. In this time of increasing awareness and consciousness on our planet, we are faced with the challenge of bringing our spirituality into the every day. Spirituality is no longer about transcending the physical. That kind of escapism is no longer appropriate. The age of the recluse, the renunciate, is definitely passing. It is up to us to embrace our physical life circumstances as a tool of spiritual development, rather than a hindrance.

The spiritual plane is not removed from the physical plane. They coexist, at the same time, in the same place. That is why we can be very much engaged in physical life and still access the resources of the spiritual plane. One is a reflection, a different aspect, of the other.

Do you ever wish you could leave the pesky details of physical life behind? Do the mundane tasks of doing laundry, balancing the checkbook, and buying groceries ever seem like a distraction from the spiritual work you feel called to do? This is the challenge we are facing as spiritual seekers of this age - to infuse our physical life circumstances with opportunities for spiritual growth. Do not allow these two aspects of existence to become separated! Our Soul, after all, chose to incarnate here, in the third dimension, into a physical body that has its own demands.

If you become frustrated with the tasks of every day third dimensional life, bring a new level of mindfulness into the every day. Look at each moment as an opportunity for positive choice. What energies are you bringing into the activity of folding laundry? Can you choose self-nurture and self-respect as the intention for buying your groceries? Why reserve this sort of mindfulness for spiritual practice?

Your Soul chose this physical incarnation as its most perfect vehicle for spiritual evolution. Honor this choice.
