About Soulmates

I have been told everyone has a right soul mate and a wrong soul mate. Do you agree with that? - Kelly B.

I get asked a lot about soul mates. It seems like such a romantic idea - one person who is the ideal mate, destined for us in this lifetime.

Unfortunately, the reality of the soulmate isn’t so romantic. Some people do indeed have a soulmate contract with another Soul. This situation isn’t always in either person’s highest path and purpose. Contracts are binding, lifetime after lifetime after lifetime, unless we specifically ask for them to be removed from our Soul record. What can happen is that the two Souls who are contracted as soulmates will meet, over and over again, regardless of whether they are still learning from each other. They may stay locked in unjustified karma, doing a long-absolved life lesson time after time in a frustrating, pointless dance. Sometimes, of course, these relationships can be beneficial. Certainly, in the lifetime of the contract’s origin, these two Souls have such a strong bond that they promise each other to always do spiritual development work together. However, Souls do grow and develop into different directions - just like people themselves do!

What is far more beneficial to the growth and evolution of our Souls are soul-level agreements to do spiritual development work together. These agreements are made mutually, before incarnating, for a specific lifetime. They are not a permanent fixture in our Soul record. Of course, many souls choose to work together many lifetimes in a row. That is a very beautiful thing, when it is mutually beneficial for each Soul’s growth and learning. We all have many Souls in our lives - family, friends, spouses and lovers - that we’ve met before.

When I do a relationship reading (or, sometimes, a potential relationship reading!), I always check for soul-level agreements between the two parties. When an agreement exists, the relationship usually serves as a path to growth within a specific life lesson.

When I do encounter a soulmate contract in someone’s Soul record, I usually clear it to be redrawn as a soul-level agreement for both parties. This way, if it is a beneficial agreement that aligns with both Soul’s highest path and purpose, the two Souls continue to work together as before. If, however, both Souls are simply in the relationship because of the contract, and development work together is obsolete, the two Souls are free to part ways. They can then open themselves up to new relationships that do assist them in their continued growth.

So, in my experience, soulmates aren’t really all they are reputed to be. Neither bad nor good, they are a contract between two Souls that may or may not serve them. Soul-level agreements are better.

By the way, if there is a soul-level agreement between two Souls, events will transpire to bring them together in their life’s journey. Our Higher Selves see to it that, when we are ready, our partner in learning will appear. We don’t need to go chasing after them - they will present themselves with perfect, divine timing.
