Here’s the thing about manifesting money. You can’t fake out the Universe!
When I work with clients and students on manifesting financial abundance, we frequently discover that what they think and say they want to manifest is not really what they want at all.
The question: “What do you really want?” is possibly one of the hardest we ever have to answer. No-one can answer it for us. And the answer constantly changes!
Maybe it’s because we spend an awful lot of time surrendering what we really want to the school system, to our employers, to our own families. We grow up learning to adapt. No wonder it’s hard to claim the Truth of our desires once we’re free to do so.
Here’s a list of what we frequently try to manifest, instead of what we really want:
1. What we think we can have
This one comes up a lot in my calls on the Divine Abundance Mentoring Circle. Instead of claiming the financial abundance we really want, we “settle” in our intentions for something more “attainable.” Of course, the attainable, safe dollar amount we choose doesn’t stir our passions, doesn’t excite us, and inevitably creates inaction.
2. What we think we should want
Just because a certain goal is upheld by our society, our family, or our peer group as desirable, doesn’t mean WE really want it! Maybe the business or income stream we want is highly unconventional. Maybe what we want to do with our financial abundance is unusual! I happen to know one successful entrepreneur who is currently building three volcanoes in his backyard. Really. After all, we’re creating money so we can have the lifestyle we really want … not the one that society prescribes for us.
3. What other people want
Your spouse may want to pay off the mortgage and tuck your extra income away in your retirement account – but is that what you really want? Everyone in your family will have different ideas of how they would spend or invest the additional income you manifest – but YOU are the manifestor! And if there’s someone who expects your financial assistance once you finally get your business rolling … you may well sabotage your own manifesting process.
4. The unnecessary “interim” solution
It’s funny how often we know what we want … and instead of manifesting our desired outcome, we create a series of “interim” steps that we have to manifest FIRST. For example, we may want to focus on manifesting money, but we tell ourselves that first we have to improve our health. So, before we can get to work on manifesting money, we tell ourselves we have to implement an exercise regimen. But we’re not really as excited about manifesting health as we are about manifesting money … and so we don’t follow through. Which is a really great way to keep us out of financial abundance!
This focus on interim goals is at times much less obvious and sneaky. In your business, you may feel you have to take additional steps, create additional programs, put infrastructure in place, hire a team … all of which MIGHT be necessary. But perhaps not! The idea that what we really want might be available NOW scares many of us. So much so that we delay manifesting our true desires with sensible, well-rationalized “interim” goals we must accomplish first.
5. The Universe To the Rescue
Sometimes our minds really, really want to magically manifest some miraculous, happy circumstance that instantly solves whatever problems we’ve created for ourselves. You know – the fantasy where we manifest big lump sums of cash from some unexpected source!
While the ego may love the idea of the Universe coming to our rescue, your Soul isn’t going to play along on this one! Remember that in order to manifest what “we want,” our Higher Self has to be on board, too.
Your Soul is here to experience itself as a powerful Divine Creator and to fully appreciate the process of choice and consequence. That means we create what we want – it doesn’t happen “to” us. Even if, at the level of ego, we wish it would!
It takes ALL of our Being to manifest what we want. If any part of us isn’t fully on board, we will not create results.
So – what do you REALLY want?
To your infinite abundance,
Andrrea

And then there is being scared and all the distractions I create to get off course from expressing my gifts…. : )
I can’t fool the Universe- I get reflected back to me what I unconsciously believe.
Hi Andrrea!
I really *felt* #4 – the interim solution stalling method. I certainly have been dwelling in that!
Thanks so much for sharing yourself with the world.
Hugs!
Andrrea, you are so good at getting my limiting “undercover” thoughts out into the open. Thank you so much. Now I know where to focus to make empowered changes rather than my same-o same-o thinking and behaving.
Cheers!
Andrea, well said! I totally resonate with the idea that most of us don’t know what we want, and what we THINK we want is not what we’re after in reality.
But then I think what we want is also based on our BELIEFS. And beliefs are lies because they are based on the past experiences. We could create a belief that “people are mean” from our experience, and someone else could take that same event and come up with a new belief “when life throws lemons, it’s even more fun to make lemonade!”
So if beliefs are just made up, why not make them up in a way that serves us? The key is changing our beliefs first in a way it becomes sustainable.
Hope I didn’t diverge too much. Great post as ever!
Love

Wow, Andrrea!… You are like a laser beam at cutting thru to the truth!… Thanks for challenging me to consider that what I “really want might be available NOW”… Love, Aurelio.
Andrea,
It’s refreshing to read an article acknowledging the existence of the higher self and the role it plays in manifesting. I found out the hard way that the higher self is a real. In 2009 I invested 9 months into manifesting millions. At the end of 9 months, I hit a wall that I figured out is what many people call the higher self. The cool thing is I found out that through “channeled writing” it’s possible to communicate with this part of yourself. I asked “it/me” why it wasn’t allowing me to manifest the money I desired and it flat out stated, “I will not allow this into our experience until you’ve figured out how to be happy without millions. Why? Because relying on money for happiness is a fast path to misery.” I didn’t like the answer, I just wanted the money =) However, I did agree with the statement and I set out to accomplish this first. That’s the path I’ve been on ever since and it feels right.
Thanks Andrea for your clarity. I’ve done/doing them all! The one that really scares me is allowing myself to know what I really desire. Can you please offer a few words of wisdom on how to access that info? I feel as though I’ve put a lot of obstacles in my way to hearing the truth of it… and some people say follow what you love to do… others to get it from my Higher Self/Soul… what’s your take? And once I understand the “from where do I get it”, then the “how to access it”? Thank you!
