As a psychic, I’m all for going with our gut. With one grand exception: When our ego is in resistance. Which is just about any time we’re trying to up-level our income.
Our ego’s job is to keep us within what is known, within our comfort zone. That’s how we’ve survived for millenia! And even if our comfort zone is a state of lack rather than abundance … it’s still what we’re used to.
When we try to leave the known realm of our comfort zone, the first response of the ego is to go on red alert. The ego isn’t trying to hold us back from achieving our dreams. It’s simply trying to keep us safe.
Because the ego governs our subconscious, which is in charge of our feelings, egoic resistance largely plays out at this level. The result? We don’t even remotely “feel like” doing what will take us to the next income level.
Time and time again, my clients will be initially excited about our plan of action for growing their income … and a week later? Our approach will no longer “feel right.” Their subconscious mind is creating self-doubt, insecurity, uncertainty and fear, which induces a state of lethargy and distraction that keeps them stuck in inaction OR unproductive busy-work.
Those feelings are big, fat liars!
They are generated by the subconscious in order to keep things as they are. The subconscious knows that it can survive within current circumstances. And so it resists what is new, different, and likely to create unknown results.
It’s important to realize – especially if you’re a sensitive, empathic person who is used to relying on your gut instincts for guidance – that you cannot trust your feelings when you are about to step out of your comfort zone. And increasing your income will ALWAYS involve stepping outside of your comfort zone!
In instances when our subconscious mind is fighting to maintain the status quo, CONSCIOUS thought must prevail. Don’t listen to your feelings. THINK.
You know that only new action creates new results. And if you want radical new results, radically new action is required.
You know that doing what you’ve always done gets you what you’ve always gotten.
And you know that your ego wants to keep you where you are – not out of malice, but because these are the instincts that have ensured our survival for millenia.
You also know there is no spiritual bypass for taking action.
These are all things you KNOW.
Don’t let your feelings talk you out of what you know to be true.
We have developed consciousness for a reason – so that we can overcome the instinct to merely survive in order to thrive through THOUGHT.
The next time you “feel” unmotivated about taking new action, remember … your feelings can be big, fat liars when you’re about to up-level your income.
What do you think? Have your feelings ever led you to stay in inaction? Leave a comment and share!

Hi Andrea!
I completely agree with you. And this sentence pretty much summed it up for me:
“In instances when our subconscious mind is fighting to maintain the status quo, CONSCIOUS thought must prevail. Don’t listen to your feelings. THINK.”
I believe that it’s perfectly ok to think rather than feel your way through some decisions in life. And yes, feelings HAVE made me stay inactive, especially when I started my business. I “felt” like it wasn’t the right time to put myself out there for YEARS! I realized that those feelings were actually fears and “old programming” I had. Once I released what needed to be released, my whole life changed.
LOVED this piece!
Great article, Andrea! (It’s one of my favorite names, lol) We need leaders like you to share these teachings far and wide so we can all get past our resistance and step up in the world in a powerful way!
This is so true, Andrea…except when it’s the opposite! If you don’t notice your feelings they show up in your thoughts as all the reasons why you can’t or shouldn’t do something. If you can’t trust your feelings, and your mind is full of doubt…what then?
I love this question, Gia! We have to really go back to what we know to be TRUE, and engage in conscious thought. For example, let’s say we’re not sure something can be done. Are other people doing it? If yes, then we know it can be done. Do we have the desire? Well, when we have a desire, that means we are everything and have everything available to us in order to fulfill that desire. There are a lot of Universal Truths – and it’s SO easy to talk about them when we’re not stuck in fear and self-doubt. But it’s when we’re in self-doubt that we REALLY need to THINK and then LIVE these Truths, through action.:-)
….. and then there are the thinkers that overthink things….. : )
Sabotage by feeling happens across the board- not only in regards to money, but also with relationships, health and business decisions. There have been times when I didn’t feel like doing something and pushed through it and was pleased with the results and other times, I regretted not listening to myself. I guess I’ll have to learn the cues- of what is a good time to listen to my gut feelings and when they are just an expression of fear.
Quite a brilliant article and response, Andrrea! I’ve been reading The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles, you sound more than a bit like him. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of the truth when we can’t “feel” it. And when our thoughts or our feelings are reflecting lack and limitation, we know that is not the truth.
Keep up the great work – I’m happy to have found your blog.
Wow, this came at the perfect time…..exactly what I am doing and going through….NOT any longer!!!
Thanks for bringing that to light!!
Thanks, Jodi! Glad it resonated!!!
My feelings left me in alot of inaction. I lost alot of chances at alot of things. Today well, let’s just say that I’ve got alot of regrets thanks to that, and some of them are about things that I didn’t do sooner. The old saying better late than never comes to mind.
It’s fantastic that you recognize it now! We always get to start again – no regrets necessary!
