It seems to me that there are many, many, many newbie entrepreneurs coming fresh into the world whose first instinct seems to try and teach OTHER entrepreneurs how to make money.

It’s an appealing niche, right? Surely, more people are wiling to pay money to make money? (By the way, you can make a GREAT income outside of the “make money” niche – just watch my new video series!)

Here’s the thing. If someone is going to perform surgery on my body, I don’t want the person who has read lots of books and studied the surgery. I don’t want the person who has watched the operation being performed twenty times. I want the surgeon who has successfully DONE the operation – not just once, but lots of times!

I don’t consider getting help with how we make our LIVING any less important!

I don’t want business advice from the person who has the intellectual understanding of how to make money.

I want business advice from the person who is ACTUALLY making money. Not only that, but I want that person to make more money than I do!

There’s a difference between intellectual understanding and embodied experience. When someone has created a result, they’ve grounded their abstract knowledge and actually grounded the vibration of financial abundance at the physical level. Which is how the money ends up in the bank.

This makes sense to all of us when we’re looking for our next business coach. If you want a sherpa to guide you across the mountain, do you want the one with the map, or the one that’s been there and back a dozen times safely? The answer is obviousl!

Surprisingly, though, lots of service providers manage to rationalize their way past their own lack of financial and entrepreneurial success and decide they are ready to help other people create a great income.

Shouldn’t we DO it first, before we teach it? Call me crazy … but I had a solid six-figure business before I ever started teaching about manifesting money.

Social media can actually do us a huge disservice here. Because anyone can now “position themselves” as successful, wealthy, happy, and engaged in a rock star lifestyle. Even if they are living in their parents’ basement, have just gone through a bankruptcy, are so riddled with financial anxiety they can’t sleep, and haven’t made a dime in six months.

There’s a not-so-thin line between marketing and lying. If we’re pretending to be something we’re not, we’re not positioning ourselves in the marketplace. We’re lying so that people will think we’re successful and hire us.

It happens a lot. More than you think.

If you’re going to hire someone to help you with improving your finances, here are the vitally important questions you might want to ask them:

  1. What was your income from your business last month? (Not your best month … LAST month. And if you want to know, in the spirit of total transparency … mine was $35K.)
  2. What was your business income in the last twelve months? (This speaks to consistency)
  3. Is your business income your only source of income?

Don’t we have a right to know what someone’s “real-life” credentials are? Why aren’t we asking these questions?

If I’m hiring someone for help with online marketing, I want to know their list size, their opt-in rates, their conversion rates. If I’m hiring someone for help team building, I want to know the size of their own organization.

It’s business. Results are everything … because don’t you want results for yourself?

Anyone can make themselves look professional online. Anyone can make themselves appear successful on Facebook – or even at a live event. Do your homework – because this is your LIFE you’re at least partially putting into the hands of someone else’s experience and expertise.

Please don’t look for a bargain when it comes to getting help for your business. A while back, a client of mine told me that she’d hired another intuitive to read her Akashic Records because my session fee of $997 was a bit steep for her. She didn’t get what she needed, and a few months later she booked a session with me anyway.

Finally – if you know that YOUR honest answers to the above questions would send YOUR prospective clients running … maybe, just maybe, the entrepreneurial niche needs to wait.

Authenticity is the key to abundance. If you’re trying to build your own business on the back of pretense and managed perception, don’t be surprised if your road is one of perpetual struggle, hollow like a house of cards. The energy of your choices will come back to you. The financial and personal cost of “fake it till you make it” is sky-high. Don’t do it.

And if you’re getting help for your income creation, pay attention. Don’t assume that how people represent themselves online is a match for their financial reality.

There are a ton of experienced, successful, solid entrepreneurial coaches and mentors out there that have created great results for themselves, and can help you do the same. All of us need help building our business and income – but make sure that your assistance comes from the vibrational state of abundance to which you yourself aspire.

To your infinite abundance,
Andrea Hess
