If you were your money, how would you feel about you?

Imagine for a second that money is a person in your life – let’s say a colleague at work or a business partner.  You have to spend time with money every single day.  In fact, there’s not a lot of choices you can make without money’s input.

If money were a person, how are you treating that person in your life?

Are you constantly worried about your money, monitoring its every move, giving it strict instructions, checking up on it several times a day?  Or do you trust your money to be there for you, to show up on time and to pull it’s weight?

Do you completely ignore your money, pretending it’s not important?  Or do you show it some appreciation and gratitude every day for all it does for you?  Do you acknowledge your money for its accomplishments?

Do you expect your money to know exactly what you want and need, without any clear direction from you?  Do you expect it to work more and harder, even though you yourself aren’t willing to make significant changes in your partnership structure?

Do you have fun with your money once in a while, allowing it to experience something new and exciting?  Do you give it the opportunity to grow and evolve?

Do you even like your money?

Given how you treat your money, how do you think your money feels about you?  Are you giving your money enough reasons to enjoy your company?  If you were your money, would you want to spend time with you?

If your money is a colleague or business partner, are you also friends?  Maybe you are engaged an incredibly productive working relationship.  Maybe your money is your boss.  Maybe money is someone you respect and admire, but are afraid to approach for help or mentoring.  Maybe money is just that annoying co-worker that seems to get in your way most of the time rather than helping you out.  Or maybe you see money as “beneath” you, someone you hardly acknowledge as an essential part of your life’s work.

What kind of relationship do you want to have with your money?  Given where you are right now, what would be the first step?
