It seems I just can’t stop writing about intentions! More just keeps coming up on the topic … not surprising, I suppose, given that intentions are the basis of the conscious creation process.
Usually, when we announce our intentions to the Universe, doors of opportunity will begin to open. We will receive intuitive nudges towards their path of manifestation – of course, whether we choose to act on those nudges or walk through those doors remains up to us. But intentions set energies in motion … unless we set intentions that are considered immediately available by the spiritual realm.
I’m talking about intentions such as: “I feel a greater degree of joy and happiness” or “I feel more connected to Spirit.” The Universe responds with a resounding “Yes!!!” to these intentions … and nothing much happens.
Let’s take the intention of greater happiness, for example. The Universe, from its infinitely abundant perspective, knows that all vibrations or energetic frequencies are available to us, at all times. Happiness, as Abraham Lincoln said, is a choice. It’s a choice that is completely and utterly available to each of us. You can be anywhere, at any time, and summon within yourself the feeling or vibration of happiness. You may not remember to do that. You may not think you are able to be happy on command. But the Universe sees you as Divine Creator, even if you don’t. The Universe knows that the vibration of happiness is right there within you, ready for you to experience it.
An intention to experience greater happiness creates no noticeable nudges or opportunity – because nudges and opportunity are unnecessary for the experience of greater happiness.
The same goes for a closer connection to Spirit – the Universe will scratch its head over this one, given that we already ARE Spirit, and this experience is available to us in each moment also.
If we are creating intentions around shifting our state of Being … nothing much may happen. That’s because, as Divine Creators, all states of Being are available to us in each and every moment. We may not know that – but the Universe does!
So if our intention centers on experiencing greater happiness or connection to Spirit, we have to go one step further. We have to ask ourselves what our lives would look like – at the third-dimensional level – because of our greater happiness or connection to Spirit. Would we do different work? Would we engage in different activities? Would we create new relationships? How would our physical life circumstances change because of greater happiness or connection to Spirit?
Many of us shy away from grounded, practical intentions. There’s a good reason for that. If we say that we want to experience greater fulfillment in our work, for example, and that would look like creating a thriving business … well, we might actually have to take action. We might have to commit to change!
Sometimes it’s safer to say that we just want to “feel” differently about our lives. We have it backwards. We incarnated into this third-dimensional experience to create third-dimensional circumstances that express our Divinity. We’re not here to simply feel okay (or happy, or fulfilled) about the life circumstances that we find ourselves in. That would be adapting ourselves to our circumstances, rather than creating what serves us.
Have a look at your intentions. Look at how often you bring up how you want to feel, rather than the actual physical circumstances you’d like to create. Commit to intentions that are practical, grounded and describe a new physical reality … and watch doors open. All you have to do is walk through.
Blessings,
Andrea

Andrea I was in total agreement with you until these last two lines. “Commit to intentions that are practical, grounded and describe a new physical reality … and watch doors open. All you have to do is walk through.” I guess it comes down to what commitment means for each of us. For me commitment equates to action. I can’t commit unless I’m willing to take the next best step to create what I’m committing to. Then those doors open because I’m turning the knob and walking through.
You’re so right Andrea! When we set intentions for concrete things, we might actually need to let go of some things to make way for the things we say we want.
I’ve noticed that a lot with simple things like “losing weight”, people don’t want to give up their foods, or their TV time to exercise. No matter how many nudges they get (like that infomercial selling a rebounder, etc!
)
I love your blog posts, and thank you so much for sharing your great message. You are awesome!
Andrea
It is a long time since I have taken the time to read your blog (sorry but a true confession) and this morning whilst I am quickly doing some online stuff before getting ready for work I noticed the link to this particular blog in my mail.
I have to congratulate you on always being one of the messengers with the most poignant yet realistic message to convey. I love the practical element attached to the ethereal. Yes I am 3 dimensional and yes I am far more than that too but I often have difficulty linking those things together. Often I live in dichotomy and am unsure how to merge my worlds together. You make it simple. Thanks!
Hi Andrea
I totally agree with you on this. With clients I make a distinction between an intention and a goal, making the intention usually an act of being and the goal an act of doing or having.
These are just words I use to so that they make tangible intentions. It’s very easy for us spiritual seekers to be a bit wishy washy, almost fearful of setting the wrong intention or being vague so they remain open to ‘God’s plan’.
The difference in the impact is huge, eg intention – to be fit and healthy great state of being yet vague, what does that really mean? The Universe doesn’t know what you really want. Goal – to lose 20lbs and wear a size 8. Much clearer, very tangible and you are telling the Universe exactly what you want.
If it’s not for your highest good you will find out at some stage and that is just part of the ride.
In peace and proserity x x x

Andrea, I so agree that when someone has a nebulous intention (desire) not only is it challenging for the Universe to fulfill, but almost impossible to measure in terms of accountability.
I would want to ask that person about their needs, i.e., “What do you need to feel happy – what’s not working for you and needs to shift?” From that place they can set a more concrete intention. The more specific they are, the more likely it is that they will be able to language something that they can actually manifest (and know it!).
I think there are lots of people who don’t know what their real needs are and discovering those are a great place to start the search for clarity.
As an astrologer, I do it monthly on the New Moon and recommend that others do the same to get into a rhythm of asking and allowing – and then checking to see what has been fulfilled and where they are each month. It is a joyful process!
Aw jeeze, do I have to? .
Now you’re getting into some clarity, for me. Time to rock and roll…
Dear Andrea,
Thanks for reminding me: when I look at my intentions I find myself checking very bluntly my motivation(s) for having these intentions! For me that is the key to materializing my intentions: MOTIVATION! Once that I use that key to open my creativity, the next step is necessarily COMMITMENT! – and that is indispensable. In my limited experience, any other way of “sitting” on my intentions is doomed to lead me to disaster, frustration and doing harm to myself and others (and these were NOT within my intentions, of course!).
Kindly,
Rubens
Great stuff here! I really enjoyed reading this and I also enjoyed looking around on your site. So glad I came across it today.
