The New Year is upon us. Are you setting your goals and intentions for 2009? Are you writing a list? Are you hauling out the craft supplies for your vision board? That’s good. Do all of that. But don’t for a second turn your goals and intentions for 2009 into a giant, oppressive “to-do” list that sends you into an egoic meltdown of attachment by April.

Sit with your list or your vision board instead. Pick just one thing – yes, it can be your “big” thing. Then ask yourself: “Who will I have to BE to attract and manifest this into my life?”

This is the question that really matters. Usually when we have a goal or intention, we think about what we will have to DO to create it. But if our Being-ness is not in alignment with our goal, then we can do all we want. No amount of doing creates a goal if the energetic resonance of our Being does not also support that goal. And action always arises out of our state of Being … so we might as well start there.

So pick just one thing off your list of resolutions for 2009. Who will you have to become to align your state of Being with that outcome? Because, let’s be real about this one: If you already were the person you will need to become, you would have already attracted the outcome you want!

If you want a new result in your life in 2009, you’re going to have to create a new state of Being. You cannot simply change your external circumstances. You’re going to have to create transformation within your Being.

Let’s say your “big” intention for 2009 is to lose 50 pounds. What state of Being would resonate with that intention? Is it a state of self-love and self-care? A state of discipline and dedication? A state of emotional fulfillment that has nothing to do with eating food?

Let’s say that losing 50 pounds is about greater self-love. Action now arises very obviously to support the energy of self-love which you want to nurture and grow in your Being. How can you act loving towards yourself – not just in dietary and exercise habits, but in every other way?

Once you’ve discovered the state of Being that supports your one intention, you may find that the same state of Being supports most everything else on your list of resolutions. And that will make your journey of inner transformation in 2009 a much simpler endeavor than sitting with a long “to-do” list.

If becoming something other than you already are strikes you as unlikely or impossible, think again. The seeds of every possible state of Being are already right there inside you. Those seeds are what inspired you with your New Year’s intentions to begin with. These states of Being are why you’re choosing to create something new this year. Some of those seeds have already begun to germinate and grow. Others are still dormant, just waiting for a little watering and Light so that they, too, can begin to express themselves.

Everything you need to become in order to attract and manifest your intentions is already within you. All you need to do is identify the seeds, water them with appropriate supportive action, and give them the Light of your attention. They will grow to transform your inner landscape forever, in a way that allows you to create the life that you want.

Many blessings to all of you who have been a part of my own journey of growth and transformation this past year! Happy New Year!
