Are your prayers answered? Many would answer this question with a resounding “no.” Which is why a large number of people seem to have given up on prayer altogether.
My experience is that prayer is always answered. It’s just that the answer to our prayers might not look at all like what we expected.
Last week, I sat on my bed one afternoon and made a very specific prayer request for my business. Within one hour, two things showed up in my email in-box. The first was some money (which is always nice). The second was an email from a friend, telling me about a unique advertising opportunity she had just come across. And wouldn’t you know it – the amount of money I had just received was exactly how much it would cost for me to do this advertising!
To me, this was a perfect example of an answered prayer. In fact, I think my Guides were showing off a bit with the speedy delivery! However, the issue I had prayed about had nothing at all to do with looking for a place to advertise my business. It didn’t even have anything to do with increasing my business! At least, not that I could tell at that time. In hindsight, the prayer and the advertising opportunity were absolutely related … which only became apparent recently.
There are two things we must recognize about how our prayers are answered:
The first is that our active participation is required. I could have simply spent the money I received on a new pair of shoes, and never advertised my business at all. My prayer would have been answered, and I would have completely missed it!
Many of us expect our prayers to be answered in a neatly wrapped, fully recognizable package. Preferably that package is delivered directly to our doorstep, no assembly required, with detailed instructions included. Some of us would even like the Universe to offer full installation, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. How many of us, after all, have said: “Be careful what you wish for?”
In reality, our prayers are often delivered in a way that requires actual effort. The package is at the post office, and we need to go and pick it up. Assembly is definitely required. We may even have to run out and buy some new tools in order to complete installation properly. And often, the instruction manual only reveals itself as we unwrap the package and get to work.
The second is that the answers to our prayers rarely look the way we expect them to. You may have prayed for physical healing, and instead received help for your relationship. You may have prayed for money, and immediately received the opportunity to go on vacation. You may have prayed for inspiration for your writing, but have been invited to attend a class, instead.
Our minds and imaginations are limited by our experience. More often than not, the creativity of the Universe confounds us completely. We miss out on answered prayers because we have created certain expectations of what those answers “should” look like.
How can you recognize the answers to your prayers? Pay close attention to every door of opportunity that crosses your path. A phone call, an email, a book recommendation, a story your friend is telling, an idea or inspiration, a sudden desire to take a nap or go shopping or paint … these can all be the answers to your prayers. You will only find out for sure if you take action and walk through the door of opportunity that the Universe has provided. You will always have the opportunity to walk right past that door, and the next, and the next. After all, the Divine will never interfere with our free will.
At the same time, new doors will always appear! The Universe aligns with infinite abundance. If we miss out on one opportunity, one answer to our prayer request, then another will appear. The second may look nothing like the first. However, the two doors may eventually, magically, lead to exactly the same place. Again, we won’t find out until we take action.
A friend of mine once told me: “Everywhere I go, I keep hearing about blogging. It just keeps showing up, I noticed a book about blogging in a co-worker’s cubicle, someone was talking about starting a blog at the table next to me in a coffee shop, and a friend of mine just forwarded me a blog article. This has been going on for a few months now. What do you think?” As it turns out, she had prayed for the next step in her professional life to be revealed.
My answer was: “What are you waiting for? A written invitation from the Universe?”
Lots of us would love that written invitation! Wouldn’t that be nice?
“Dear beautiful Soul, you are invited to your next step in your professional life: blogging. Please start a blog at your earliest convenience – or not. It’s up to you. Love, Universe.”
Are your prayers already being answered? Are you waiting for your own written invitation from the Universe? Leave a comment and share!
Blessings,
Andrea

Andrea, because we don’t see the whole bigger picture, we definitely don’t always see that our prayers are answered. We may also just get part of the answer because we are needed to act on the first part before we get the second, third or fourth installation. Sometimes it is so obvious that we can’t possibly miss the answer. We just choose to ignore it because we didn’t like the answer so we ask again hoping to get the answer that we want. One thing that my trips to India have taught me is to let go of the results. We can’t and shouldn’t control every step of the journey. Sometimes, we ask but don’t really want to know the answer. How confusing is that to our guides when they give us what we asked for and then we ignore the answer. I have learned, “Be open to possibilities.”
Hi Andrea, I am certainly getting better at “listening” and “watching” for clues as to how to move forward. I am asking for guidance in certain areas regularly as well as looking at my vision board daily. I guess my only issue is information overload sometimes…. being on the internet and communicating with tons of people there is always SO MUCH information coming my way and possible ways to move on a situation…. It is good to have faith and know that if I missed something the first time around it will most likely be presented to me again. Oh a written invitation from the Universe sounds heavenly — can I order one of those?
My prayers are being answered and I am enjoying the journey of not always knowing which way is next but trusting whichever way I choose — (though it usually is not the way I originally planned) — it is that way for a reason. Thank you for your wonderful post. Gratefully, Jenny
I just wanted to say thanks for the great articles. I will keep looking for signs from the universe and praying for what I seek. Afterall, if I don’t ask, I don’t get!
Andrea,
‘way to break it down like you always do!
There’s a label on the outside of this box in my world:
“Answered Prayers : Some Assembly Required.”
In accordance with your two crucial points, I’ve relaxed my expectations of what the answered prayers may look like, what form they take, and above all, that the forms won’t need me to actively engage and synthesize them.
The timing, such as what you described with your email/advertising opportunity, is one of the number one ways my antennae start twitching — even when the timing feels obvious, the pieces may not be. I always just assume I’m getting a vital clue, a piece of the puzzle, and that the whole will come together much faster when I begin to pick up the puzzle pieces and put them to good use.
When you do this, you begin to realize how many pieces of the answers you ARE getting and they’re everywhere. Sometimes you’re fortunate enough to receive a ShowRoom Model; and nearly always you’re asking “Where’s the instruction manual?”
Thanks for putting this important perspective out there,
Slade
I’m pretty sure that I’m also one of those, who fail to see the “clues” given in answered prayers; judging by what you say that the answers may not come in the form I expect. You said “You may have prayed for physical healing, and instead received help for your relationship. You may have prayed for money, and immediately received the opportunity to go on vacation. You may have prayed for inspiration for your writing, but have been invited to attend a class, instead.” How do I even begin to make the link? It would have been all too easy to assume that no answers came.
Evelyn
My oh My, how timely this one is for me today!! My current relationship issues have pushed me to the point of asking UE, Hey? Is it time to move ON?????????? So, my activities of late have been to begin closure. Projects getting finished around the home, sorting out unneeded personal items, things of that nature….And Oh how they how flowed!! Releasing from items I thought I HAD to have for so many years now just were handed over to a friend, or goodwill or the firepit. Like water through my fingers. One issue I had been holding onto was Fear of the Future, if I leave, where will I go? How will I take all my STUFF? So….the flowing has been remarkably like an answer to prayer. Next items being worked on are the new place to live and a job in that local. Will attend to housing viewing this weekend and take it from there. I am feeling that the Flow of things best describes how my answers will arrive. Although I have no set destination, am open to many new ideas, I know I want a homebase, and I know it will be there, for the Inner Base is feeling quite more secure these days. Process…….Life is all a Process…..and as We Process…..Life is allowed to also…….Thanks!
Hello, I certainly did some praying with some very specific requests included to get to where I am at present. When I say ‘get to where I am’ I mean geographically because I have emigrated to another country but also my husband and I are both in jobs that we really enjoy, in a house that we love (yes, it needs work!) and in a country that we are falling in love with and which is embracing us, and as a result we are happier, more fulfilled and our relationship has improved and therefore I have ‘got to where I am’ in a more spiritual and emotional sense also. Throughout a series of hard praying and making specific requests over a couple of years, I saw some signs, one after the other, that my prayers might be answered – they were simple signs; so simple and a little too obvious that I dared not believe that they were indications that my requests would come to fruition. However, I believe that they were signs of encouragement and I realised that to ‘get to where I am now’ I would have to be proactive and not just passively sit and wait for things to happen. I would have to put some work in – which I did but I kept on remembering those signs that I had witnessed and this kept me going, through ups and downs and over hurdles, and kept me feeling positive about what I and my husband were trying to achieve for us and our two children. It was not always easy. So no, things do not come delivered and perfectly installed with no assembly required; they may eventually arrive after a long delay, flat packed in a soggy box that has split open, with no tools, parts missing and with instructions that are sometimes hard to interpret and assembly is nothing but frustrating! But with perserverence and positivity……..we can build it!
Patricia – You make an excellent point. Sometimes we don’t really want to know what we have to do in order to get the result we want. Our Guides, thank goodness, never give up on us. Although I think their job must be pretty frustrating at times.
Thank you, Jenny. Yes, that written invitation would be great! Oh well …
It’s great that you’re willing to throw out your original plans … that leaves so much more room for Spirit to assist! It’s when we think we know exactly how it should all unfold that we close ourselves off to spiritual assistance.
Dean – YES! We absolutely have to ASK! Thank you for making that point – SO important.
Slade – Thank you! I love that – “Some Assembly Required!” So true! I’m with you on the timing … if I make a request, I just keep my eyes peeled for whatever might come my way. Since I make a request pretty much daily, I’m always vigilant, really. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn’t – but in retrospect, I’m always amazed at how well things work out, even without the instruction manual. It truly is like a giant puzzle piece. One piece at a time, we assemble the puzzle, and only at the end when we can step back in hindsight do all the little miracles along the way really become apparent.
Evelyn – You’re right, on the surface it looks very confusing, right? The secret is to NOT try to figure it out until all the pieces of that puzzle are assembled. Like Slade said, we just keep collecting bits and pieces. Until we have them all, we can drive ourselves nuts trying to conceive of the big picture. I recommend working under the assumption that ALL prayers are ALWAYS answered. If you use that perspective, you’ll be surprised at how much you noticed. Most people don’t have that expectation, and miss a lot of what comes their way!
Victoria – So glad this was timely for you! It truly is amazing how many wonderful things can come our way if we’re willing to move forward from where we are now and embrace change. Sounds like you are setting clear intentions and allowing for lots of assistance to come in …
Lesley – What a great story! You’re right, I think we do get so many inspirations and positive nudges along the way. I do think a lot of our struggle to get to where we are going comes from attachment – we think we know what kind of package we “should” get and when, and we put up an awful lot of resistance sometimes. I guess part of our journey is opening up more and more to possibility and letting go of attachment … and it certainly sounds like it’s brought you to an awesome place!
Thank you all so much for your comments!!!
Blessings,
Andrea
This was a uplifting article! I love how you put things so thoughful, yet with humor!
Hindesight they say… 20/20 right. Well so true. So this article is just a reminder to stay more aware and more open before it passes by. Thank you.
Thanks, Andrea, for such wonderful advice! Yes…I’m quick to jump to wanting to see the full picture; and in that confusion, thought that no answers came. What a wonderful perspective – to see that each piece forms part of a giant puzzle and only in time, will things appear to fall in place. The assumption that ALL prayers will be answered is a good one to have!
Evelyn
Hi Andrea, my prayers have definitely been answered but I only started realizing this very recently. They definitely came in the weirdest, most unimaginable packages, so your article definitely said it all for me! My prayer deliveries came in parts, and being the Bozo that I was (or am), I just stared at the parts, scratched my head and wondered what they were. I do have to say that assembling the parts was actually quite fun. Only when the parts started to come together did I finally see what this whole thing was building into. Sometimes I will just stare in disbelief that these weird things were actually what I had prayed for, LOL! Yes … we do have to be careful what we wish for.
Hi Andrea, I found your blog through a review Mags did on another spiritual book. I am so happy and feel so grateful to have been directed to your site. Your writings are wonderful and I finally feel comfortable in being on the same page with people of like minds. Your blog about the answering of prayers hit home. On my spiritual journey I am learning to quiet my mind and open my heart to the universe and my spirit guides and the answers seem to be always waiting patiently for my attention
. I have purchased your book and look forward to reading every word. Thank you for sharing your insights!
Hi Andrea … found your site by way of Slade and love you both. In fact, I’ve been guided to sign up for the Soul Alignment training. (YEY!) I keep my eyes open for all kinds of answers to prayers and when I get that weird sort of “nudge”, I know that’s my guides. My work is to follow those nudges to see where they lead.
Thanks for your work – I look forward to reading and commenting more.
Lisa
Andrea ~ Great minds think alike. You and I think alike in many ways. I felt as if I wrote this while reading this article. I have friends who call me and talk to me at length about their lives and how can they do it? Sometimes they complain that they are more religious than others yet they are struggling financially. What they have done is that they have sold their own soul in the name of religion. They are no different than those welfare recipients in our country who think that government should take care of their lives. Answer is rude but simple – Take action. Take lots of actions as many will die on the way to success…
Shilpan
Hi Andrea…..
I would agree that prayers are always answered. My take on this, though, is a bit different. We’ve all heard the spiritual aphorism “it’s all one.” And we gloss over it because it’s been said so many times. But if it is true, then everything really is ONE thing. And if I’m praying, to whom am I praying? The Universe? God? Higher Power? But if it’s all One, then I’m simply praying to ME. And I’m praying every second of every day of my life. And look at my life! A perfect reflection of my prayers.
I’m way over simplifying things, and not being as clear as I would like to because I want to keep this short, but I think you get the idea. Just some thoughts to add to the discussion. Be well! Namaste.
Hi Andrea,
I have been meaning to drop you a line to let you know how much I am enjoying your book Unlock your intuition.
My family – wife, Sheila, daughter, Sharon and two grandchildren have been living under one roof in California for the past 2 years.
My wife took ill last August and as a result became disabled. Living in California requires a 2-party income and more since there were two families involved.
This incident triggered a very large and exciting shift in my life and the lives of each of my family members.
I think this is when prayer came back into my life along with some additional knowledge about spirituality.
My prayers were answered in the form of some 20 plus miracles in a period of 10 months. I have not had this many answers/miracles/positive incidents happen in my 60 plus years on this earth. Not miracles as I know them to be that happened to me and my entire family.
In the last 10 months, my wife has gone Code Blue 3 times and survived, had congestive heart failure, renal failure, lost the ability to walk or even get out of bed.
After having lived in California for nearly 40 years, I received miracle number one in the form of a psychic reading from a friend of my brother’s family in North Carolina. The message was go home and put your home on the market right away. After one failure with a Real Estate person, miracle number 2 happened. A friend of my daughter’s attorney (Divorce Attorney) sent us a Real Estate Agent who helped us to sell our home in less than a week – just in time to reap the benefit of a spectacular price before the Real Estate Market started its collapse.
My daughter, grandchildren and 2 cats headed off to North Carolina where my brother and his family live and where we decided to go to be near family for the sake of my wife.
About 2 months prior to the the move, at least 6 people were sent to us and mentioned some conection to North Carolina and encouraged us to move there. Another miracle; not sure I called this one or not, but just knew I was getting lots of warm fuzzies that the move was the right thing.
The move happened in January of this year while I was still in California tryhing to figure how I was going to get my bed-ridden wife out of California. 2 more miracles were in the process of forming while I was pulling my hair out asking for help and wondering why my wife and I weremarooned here and my daughter and grandkids were off to North Carolina.
Another miracle happened in the form of a med-evac service that came to us and helped move my wife to North Carolina to a Skilled Nursing facility. I cannot begin to tell you how many wonderful people were involved in this miracle; all I know is that the universe opened all the gates wide to make this happen after 3 false starts with 2 hospitals turning us down and then the skilled nursing facility that had a dialysis unit 100 feet away ended up accepting my wife as a patient.
I kind of skipped over the fact that I made two quick trips to North Carolina to purchase a house that all of us had manifested in our minds; 4 bedrooms, 2 plus baths and an extra room that might look like the sunroom that we had just added to our California home a little over a year ago.
Several more miracles; a wonderful Real Estate agent who, after showing me 25 lovely homes led me to the home where I am writing this e-mail tonight – a 4 bedroom, 2 and one-half baths with a screened in porch that is just about the same size as our sunroom in California.
These miracles, by the way were all answers to prayers/meditations that has been going on for months and came along in quick bursts, but not all in the exact form of my requests. The house was one of those very special answers.
So as to not overload your mail box with rambling data, I will have to tell you that many more miracles followed; one very special one – my wife made a miraculous partial recovery at Britthaven Skilled Nursing Facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. She got out of bed, is walking short distances and is now in a wheelchair at home receiving in-home physical therapy and will soon have a scooter so she can become more mobile. She goes to dialysis 3 times a week down a beautiful steel ramp that was brought to us in the form of another miracle.
My daughter’s story of how she was able get out of the state of Californa after several nasty court battles is another whole group of miracles; all brought about with prayer/meditation. Does prayer work – you bet it does, but you have to ask first then believe in your heart that what you need is already here. That is tough when you are flat on your back about to meet your maker.
When my wife first went Code Blue, the attending nurse who took care of my wife after she woke up said, “You went to Jesus and he sent you back”. Oh yes, prayer works and all of my many miracles over this past 10 month period were answers to those requests for help.
Are the miracles going to stop coming while this major shift is going on; jobs for my daughter and me, help for my disabled wife, etc, etc, etc. I don’t think so because I am keeping a gratitude journal and letting the universe know that I am thankful beyond belief and so happy in our new home and our new surroundings.
The old adage of “If at first you do not succeed, try, try again and my addition to this is, believe, believe and believe.
Sorry this has been so long-winded, but I just had to let you know you have had a big impact on several lives that were once in California and are now in North Carolina.
Have a good day, Andrea and keep up your good work – looking forward to your next book.
George
George, what a blessing your response is to me. I was loosing a little bit of my determination and letting negative energy enter and it has been affecting me big time. After reading your response to Andrea’s insight on prayers being answered I felt empowered. I’m not sure this has anything to do with getting back into positive energy and belief, but……….I am from NC………:-) I owe this moment to my intutitive side who insisted I stopped what I was doing and check email……Love it!
Wishing you continued miracles and a prosperous healthy life for you and your family…Bev
April – Thank you!
Evelyn – I’m glad it served you! The more you allow for the unfolding, the faster the bigger picture seems to reveal itself … that’s one thing that I feel I’ve discovered over time.
Irene – Isn’t it great how creative the Universe is? We can take delight in it … once we get over scratching our heads in puzzlement!
Wow, Bev – Thank you, and thanks for purchasing my book! I hope it serves you on your path!
Lisa – Woo hoo! I look forward to working with you in our coaching sessions through the program! You’ll love it, and we have such a great bunch of Practitioners you can network with, too!
Shilpan – I often find myself the mindset that we “should” be doing this or that, or that something “is supposed to happen.” Both imply an external authority … WE are the ones that have free will! And we need to DO something with it! We definitely can’t expect Spirit or God or the Universe to swoop in and make it all happen for us.
Tom – Aaah, that’s a whole can of worms we could get into! I think you might really like my article on Owning our Divinity. I agree that we ARE God – and yet, we’ve agreed to participate in this illusion of separation. And that illusion persists through many dimensional levels. After all, even the idea that we have separate Souls is just another illusion. Through prayer, we can pierce through that illusion and discover just how connected we are, just how powerful we are. Because our will is done! Which, I think, scares the you-know-what out of some …
Hmmm, I think this is going to inspire a whole new article – thank you!
George – Thank you so much for sharing your miracles! I love these stories, they inspire all of us to expect our own miracles! You are so right – we have to believe, because our beliefs are never going to be proven wrong. Thank you also for the kind comments on my book, I’m so glad it is serving you!!!
Blessings,
Andrea
Andrea,
Just wanted to take a second and commend you on all the great writing and work that you do. It’s so clean (energetically speaking).
blessings,
gia
Hi Andrea – well may I say i think that was spot on!
I have often simply said to myself I would like something to be resolved or whatever as I go to sleep – and I find things come the next day or soon after. I haven’t been doing it lately, so thanks for reminding me!
Robin
Gia – I couldn’t think of a better compliment than “energetically clean!” Hurray! Thank you!
Robin – Isn’t it funny how we forget something as simple as asking for spiritual assistance? And we could be saving ourselves so much time and energy … glad this post reminded you of your resources!!
Blessings,
Andrea
