In an ideal world, we’d stop listening to the voice of the ego so darn much and become perpetually tuned in to the wisdom and guidance of our Higher Self.  On our journey of spiritual evolution, that’s where we’re going.  But the voice of the ego is loud and constant.  It can be hard to hear/sense/ffeel our way past the mental chatter and listen to our Higher Self.  The process can, however, be made a little easier when we invite our Higher Self to take a more active role.

Yesterday morning, I was out buying bagels for breakfast.  The bagel store smelled deliciously of coffee.  I’ve been trying to reduce my coffee intake lately … but that smell was just too enticing.  I wanted coffee, darn it! So here I was in line, trying to tune in to the wisdom and guidance of my Higher Self while the aroma of coffee was wafting through my brain.  I really didn’t get any particular guidance one way or the other.  Obviously, the ego wanted coffee.  But what was my Higher Self saying?  Nothing that I could discern right then and there!  And so I thought to myself: “Okay, I’m going to get this coffee.  But really, if it’s not in alignment with my highest good to drink it, I would be willing to give it up.”  Still, no nudge one way or another.  I bought my coffee.

I drove home, my coffee in my cupholder.  I didn’t drink it while I was driving.  I walked into my house and reached down to put my coffee on a low side table.  Right then, my purse slid down from my shoulder, all the way down my arm and into my coffee cup!  Coffee went flying everywhere.  Obviously, it was not in my highest good to have a cup of coffee that morning!  Thanks, Higher Self.  I got the message, loud and clear!

Free will is an amazing thing.  You see, our Higher Self can’t intercede against our will.  If I had simply decided to have my coffee, that would have been the end of the matter.  But I announced quite clearly my willingness to give it up.  I used free will to allow my Higher Self to run the show.  I couldn’t discern my highest good right then and there, so I left it in more capable hands.  Granted, I could have done without the coffee stains on my carpet.  Still, I was impressed with the instant response to my request!

Consciously inviting our Higher Self to  to play a more active role in our lives is a powerful practice.  When you wake up tomorrow morning, why not ask your Higher Self to assist you in making choices that fully align with your highest path and purpose?  You may be surprised at what develops.

Blessings,
Andrea
