In my last post, I talked about the nature of negative energy.  Today, I’d like to talk a little about negative Souls.  Some of you will be very, very uncomfortable with this information.  Lightworkers have a very hard time believing that anyone in their environment might have a negative energetic orientation.  If you find yourself squirming as you read this, challenge yourself to be with your discomfort,  It is trying to tell you something important.  Negativity exists -  looking around our world, we can have no doubt about this fact.  And because negativity exists, it may well exist in your life, as well.

So let’s talk about these negative Souls, these negative Beings who are actively working with the absence of Divine Light.

In my practice, a client will occasionally ask me to read for a loved one who turns out to be working with negative energy. There are two questions that help me discern the basic energetic orientation of a Soul. One is whether the Soul is directing disruption at Divine Creation. If the answer is “yes,” then the Soul is working with some degree of negativity. The next question is whether the Soul requests assistance in clearing energies to align with Divine Love, Light and Truth. When a Soul is truly negative, it will not request assistance. The Soul wants to continue working against the Light of Divine Creation. As a Practitioner, I have to respect this choice and do not proceed further with reading or clearing work.

I mention this here because the quality of energy we work with is a Soul-level choice. No negative Soul sits down one day and thinks to themselves: “Maybe I’ll get ahead faster if I work with guilt or anger. I think I’ll work against the Light of Divine Creator today.” Negative Souls are not bad people. They are not obviously mean, or aggressive, or display a negative mindset. To truly discern who the negative Souls in your life may be, you have to keep the following in mind:

  • There are negative Souls in each of our lives. They are our parents, our siblings, our spouses, our children, our friends, our bosses and co-workers. Because negative Souls thrive on the negativity they create within Lightworkers, most of us know a few. That can be a difficult realization for us, because we love these people. So keep in mind that they are not “bad” or “evil” people. They have made a Soul-level choice to work with a different energetic quality than Divine Light. It is not our job to judge that choice! It is not our job to help them make a new choice, because that implies judgment. It is not our job to do battle with negativity, since that increases its strength and power. As Lightworkers, we increase Light. We disallow negativity, which is entirely different from fighting it.
  • Negativity is powerful because it remains hidden. If it did not remain hidden, we would avoid it with ease, and then negative Souls couldn’t create havoc in our lives and draw on our wonderful energetic resources! Negative Souls don’t look or act “evil” or “dark.” They are actually very nice people! Negativity is sneaky. It plays in the dark, where we remain unaware of it. All we see is its influence in our lives, and we tend to blame ourselves for its manifestation.
  • Each negative Soul has the opportunity at all times to return to a path of Light. Free will gives them this opportunity. Negative Souls returning to a path of Light is a rare and celebrated thing. As Lightworkers, is not our job to “turn them around.” There is no need. Light is always there, always available.
  • Once we get to know and recognize a negative Soul in our lives, we may think that this person might be happier or more joyful if he or she returned to a path of Light. What we fail to understand is that negative Souls don’t sustain themselves on the energies of happiness and joy. To a negative Soul, these energies are threatening. They are therefore not motivating to them as they are to you and me.
  • The people that are outwardly pessimistic or even hateful are not usually negative Souls. Their behavior gets them nowhere – it certainly doesn’t allow them to receive energy from Lightworkers. Very outwardly negative and miserable people are usually Souls of Light that have a high degree of negative blocks and restrictions affecting them. They feel so separated from Divine Light and their own Higher Self that they act this damaged relationship with themselves out within the rest of the world. They are miserable because they are Lightworkers. A negative Soul, on the other hand, flourishes on this kind of separation from Divine Light.

So how do we spot the negative Souls in our midst? Unless you can access their Akashic Record as I do in readings, it can be tricky! Lightworkers tend to assume that everyone else around them is a Lightworker, also. We have no other way of being, and working with negative energies is unimaginable to us. This is why negativity has been so successful on our planet. The following indicators tell us that a Soul may be working with a degree of negativity.  If enough indicators are present, you may be dealing with a truly negative Soul.

    • They consider themselves happy, even though from the outside, they may not seem terribly happy or joyful to us.  They are actually satisfied with themselves and do not seek a greater degree of satisfaction, passion, or joy.
    • They are not creative.  Creativity is an expression of our Divinity.  We may express that creativity by building a business, or making art, or doing home improvement projects.  But negative Souls do not really create much of anything.
    • They do not really change.  This is because they are not evolving.  Sure, they may be saying all the right things.  But when you watch them for a while, you recognize that they don’t do anything differently from what they’ve always done.
    • They do not add to our lives.  They may be pleasant to be around – but they do not inspire us.  They do not push us out of our comfort zone.  We do not get “a-ha!” moments from our conversations with them.
    • They are always there when you are down!  They are the friends that may always call when we happen to be at a low point, or the relative that loves to worry with us.  When you are feeling extremely happy and connected to your purpose, on the other hand, these people tend to not show up.
    • If you are happy and joyfully embracing your purpose, they have a way of diverting your attention.  If you recognize that family drama ensues whenever you are having a particularly successful or joyful day, you may have a Soul who works with negativity in your midst.  Energy follows thought.  Negative Souls want us to be preoccupied with them, because this nurtures them energetically.  Often, they will demand our attention through their behavior.
    • They have a way of making you question yourself, and your reality.  You will find yourself taking responsibility that is not yours, or wondering if you are acting out of integrity with your good intentions.  You will question your own motives and begin thinking that perhaps there is something wrong with you, after all.  This is the destructive quality of negative energy at work.  It seeks to erode our relationship with our Higher Self and our Divinity.
    • They uplift the ego, not the Spirit.  Negativity is highly invested in “personality.”
    • You may feel tired or depleted when you spend a great deal of time with them.  If you are on vacation with your in-laws and are constantly exhausted, you may have a negative Soul in your family.  Remember, they draw on your vital force energy, and will thus affect your physical energy level, also.
    • They may be subtly manipulative.  This manipulation sneaks up on us.  They seem to say and even do all the “right” things.  Underneath this behavior, however, we sense an undercurrent of negativity.  Over time, we may recognize that their seemingly harmless words or actions have caused us to shift our behavior in a way that isn’t aligned with our highest good.
    • They will never admit to their manipulations.  When called upon inconsistencies in their behavior, they will become highly defensive.  When pressed, their negativity may reveal itself quite obviously.

Remember that many, many Souls work with both negative and positive energy equally.  The presence of one or two of these indicators does not mean that a Soul has truly chosen a path of working against Divine Creator.  It just means that they are directing negativity at that time.  If you notice that many of these indicators apply, however, you may have to consider the possibility that this person is a negative Soul.

Many of us are highly resistant to this consideration!  Some of you may have been tempted to stop reading this article half-way through.  How can we believe such a thing about our children, our spouses, our family members?  Again, this is why there is so much negativity present on our planet!  We have not cultivated awareness of negativity in our immediate surroundings.  We think of negativity as something that affects others, something that is “out there.”  We are wrong.  What we see on the evening news is the outward manifestation of what is going on in each of our lives.

Some of your loved ones may indeed be working with negative energies.  They may even be negative Souls.  It is a reality for many of us Lightworkers.  The more you resist awareness of the situation, the more this negativity can influence you, and keep you from aligning with your highest path and purpose.

In my next post, we will discuss how we can protect ourselves against the negative energies that the people in your life may be working with.
