After three years of learning more about html, css, and php than I frankly ever cared to, I’m taking a big step. I’m going to hire someone else work on my website. My final decision was made today, when I picked up another book on web design. I realized that, while I could definitely improve my design skills, I don’t really care to. I’d rather write – or even watch paint dry, for that matter!

I realized that this is part of an abundance mindset – to let go of the reins, and trust that this area of my business will still be lovingly supported by the Universe, and hopefully by a competent webmaster. It got me thinking about the relationship between abundance and clutter. Working on my website is a time-consuming chore that clutters up my work day. It may feel productive. But in reality it just takes up space – space that I could fill with activities that truly enrich my life, my business, and the lives of my clients. To me, having a work day full of truly valuable and meaningful activity means living with abundance.

How much of what we think we “have to” do is really just clutter that we’ve somehow taken responsibility for?  How much on our plate could be done by someone else?  And why is it so hard for us to delegate those responsibilities?

I read somewhere doing everything ourselves is a special kind of self-centeredness – the idea that we, and only we, can do an adequate job and fulfill a responsibility.  While that may be true, I think a lot of the clutter that keeps us busy stems from fear.  How would we fill that space in our lives, if we let go of the unnecessary?  And how would we feel, knowing that things do not fall apart if  someone else takes over?  Would it make us feel less valuable?  Or would it free us to truly embrace our purpose?

Letting go of being busy takes courage.  When we do away with the clutter, we have the opportunity to expand into the space that is left behind.  Clutter means staying small, hiding behind the false necessity of things that “need” to be done.  Space means room for growth, for new possibilities and true abundance.

How spacious can we allow ourselves to become?  What is one activity, one busy piece of “clutter” that you could let go of?  What would you do with that space?

Blessings,
Andrea
